Review - Coast to Coast

Just in time for SOS, KHP Music in association with the great members of The National Association of R&B Dee Jays has released his fourteen track compilation for your dancing and listening pleasure. “Hey Mr. Dee Jay (Spin A Tune For Me)” is first up. I know I have used this line before in other reviews, but this Bill Ballard penned tuned, sung by Lonne Givens is the perfect choice to kick things off. This song should be one of the hottest breakout songs at Spring Safari. Up next is one of the smoothest guys I know, Gary Brown, on “Let’s Dance”. This one should get a lot of attention as well. The Band of Oz shows why they have survived in this fickle business for forty years with their contribution, “Walkin’ Up The Steps of Faith”. Jerry West handles the lead vocals on this one, and it is evident he really connected with this song when recording it. One of my favorites here is “Falling”, a disco-ish tune from Rhonda McDaniel. The Northern Soul crowd should also find favor in this one. Pat Carpenter is next with his original ballad “Every Night & Every Day”. Another smooth crooner, Paul Carver follows with “(I’m Just A) Fool For You”. I’ve been playing this one for awhile to some great reaction. The wild n’ wooly King Tyrone and The Graveyard Ramblers come in with “Mama’s Drinking Liquor Again”, a down and bluesy tune written by Jim Quick. A group that was new to me until this CD, The Beat Daddys, is featured with one of their tunes, “Tear The House Down”. They hail from Nashville, Mississippi, Indiana and worldwide, according to their MySpace page. These guys really got it going on! Gary Lowder follows with a version of Rick Astley’s “Hold Me In Your Arms”, and then The Holiday Band revs it up several notches with their interpretation of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll”. Gary Brown also adds a good version of country music’s Rick Trevino’s “In My Dreams”. The reverend of irreverence, Rev. Bubba D. Liverance & The Corn Hole Prophets, is next with a radio version of “If You Can’t Shag”. Doo Wop meets Beach Music with “There Goes My Baby”. This great version is courtesy of Kenny Vance & The Planotones. Closing out this compilation is “I’m Going Home”, a Gospel-Shag toe-tapper from James Soleberg. This CD will be one of the hottest ones on sale during SOS, so if you see it, buy it!

TBMF Party Weekend - Party Information

Once again, the TBMF has arranged some parties on Friday Night before the festival and Saturday Night after the festival. Friday Night, Joey starts things off at the Cleveland Draft house at 6, Look a band called the Revelers to get started around 7 and play till 11. I have not seen these guys yet, but I heard they do a great job rocking the place out from some friends that have seen them in Greenville, NC. Joey continues the party at 11 inside.

After a day on the Farm enjoying the party of the year, the 10th Annual TBMF, plan to head back over to the Cleveland Draft House for the TBMF Post Party featuring Joey Warren with Jim Quick & Coastline. I think they are doing a $5 cover charge each night. Call the Draft House at (919) 771-2337 for more details about the pre and post party. I think they are planning to run some shuttles back and forth from the hotels. Look for more info when you check in Friday.
