Review – Island Soul by Rick Strickland

One of the most talented artists in Beach Music today is Rick Strickland. Not only did he write every tune on his second solo CD, he also produced, arranged, engineered and mixed this project on KHP Music. “Bubba White’s” leads off this twelve-song ensemble of melodic poetry. This driving dance tune is sure to be one that will find favor on radio and in the clubs. Next, you can slow it down a bit with “Love The Night Away”, a nice smoothie. “I’m Happy” starts off with a testimony of love then gets into a nice dance groove. Some great guitar work greets our ears in “Best Love”, another smoothie. Read more…

Review – Forever Summer II

Not being a company to rest on their laurels, KHP Music has released this fifteen-track compilation that has some of the best beach, boogie and soul music these ears have heard. I don’t have a crystal ball, but it’s not hard to predict that this CD could easily spawn several Top 10 and possibly #1 tunes. “All The Good Times” is the latest from Lia and The Wave and it kicks off this project. “That’s My Story” from Cracked Ice, featuring shared lead vocals of Brent Carter (formerly with Tower of Power) and Susan D has started making it on the air waves and in the clubs. She sang this one during CBMA weekend to great responses from the audiences. DJ, vocalist, harmonica player and auctioneer Gary Bass follows with “Fresh Coat of Paint”, one that is sure to keep the dance floor occupied. The Holiday Band is well Read more…

Review – Locals Too

The follow-up to “Locals Only” arrived in high musical style. Fifteen tracks adorn this compilation and several are already on play lists all over Beach Music Land. There is no “one or two” songs here that are the pick of the litter. Take a listen to The Pat Carpenter Band’s version of “Lucky Lucky Me”. I love Jimmy Ruffin’s & Marvin Gaye’s versions of this tune, but PCB takes it to another level. It’s THAT good. The upbeat “Like To See My Baby” from Angel Rissoff and King Tyrone is another jewel in this musical crown. One of the hottest groups in the “up and coming” category, The Magnificents, score big time Read more…
